Services offered:

• Beta Reading

  • • Lean one reader's reactions to your work! A beta reader will read your story and tell you what they loved, what they didn't love, what stuck with them, etc. Sometimes a beta reader will have questions you didn't think to answer in your story, or they'll come to a conclusion that you didn't intend. It's always a good idea to get more eyes on your writing before you publish it, and the information gained can be very helpful.

• Editing Assessment

  • • Get a professional opinion about the kind of feedback that would most benefit your work. There are a lot of options, including developmental editing, line editing, proofreading, beta reading, and sensitivity reading. If you're not sure what would be most helpful for you, having an editor look your work over and tell you their thoughts can get you on the right track.

• Sample Line Editing (required for further line editing)

  • • See if you can find an editor that's a good fit for you at Augury Press! Send us a sample of 1,000 words and we'll edit it. From this sample we'll be able to give you an estimated cost for the full piece, and you'll get an idea of our editing style and whether it works for you.

• Line Editing

  • • Polish your writing style and bring out your individual voice! Line editing is meant to enhance your writing, checking for consistency of style, good flow, and maximum impact. Augury Press does not begin line editing until a sample edit has been done.

Pricing:

Augury Press is dedicated to publishing and promoting queer stories. In an effort to support that, there are discounts in place for stories that have queer themes.

• Beta Reading: $.01/word. For queer stories, the first 10,000 words are free! This means that if your piece has queer themes and is less than 10k words, we will read it and offer comments at no charge.

• Editing Assessment: $.01/word for queer stories; $.015 for stories that aren't queer

• Sample Line Editing: $10 for queer stories; $15 for stories that aren't queer

• Line Editing: $.02/word for queer stories; $.025 for stories that aren't queer

What will we edit?

Romance, science fiction, or fantasy between 3,000 and 40,000 words long. We don't edit erotica, horror, historical fiction, or non-fiction that are less than 3,000 words or more than 40,000 words long.

Ask here! There is no harm in asking us whether we'll edit something. We'll either say no (if we're sure we aren't the best fit for your piece) or we'll suggest that you do a sample line edit with us.
